Sleep diet

Less we sleep , the more you eat the more you ... and bigger ! It is this fact that you will now get used in your quest for healthy weight because researchers from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine have shown that sleep helps to slow down the expression of the gene for obesity.
Sleep prevents obesity

A team from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine is interested in the relationship between sleep time and BMI. To do this, the researchers calculated the ratio between these two variables in twins and other data such as: the environment and its influences and the probability of each of inheriting the gene for obesity. The study subjects were divided into three groups: those who sleep less than 7 hours a night , those who sleep between 7am and 9am , and those who sleep more than 9 hours per night. The results showed that the increase in body mass index among individuals who sleep less than 7 hours is more related to genetic factors and are more likely to have obesity gene activated . Sleep longer and preserves the expression of this gene and thus the development of overweight or obesity linked to genetic factors.
Sleep to preserve its metabolism

Other studies have also shown the link between sleep and metabolism and its impact on weight gain . During sleep , the body, including the brain , continues to consume glucose , which continues to be the rate stabilized insulin production . This substance also has other functions such as allowing cells to absorb glucose or that convert glucose into energy source by muscles and synthesize proteins and lipids while avoiding storage.

The glucose tolerance, resulting from insulin resistance , is decreased during the very short time of sleep . In this case , glucose is assimilated by the cells but circulated in the blood and stored as fat . Increasing the resulting production promotes weight gain and development of type 2 diabetes .

Sleep affects weight gain in the regulation that operates in hormone levels . These include those involved in the regulation of body weight and appetite : leptin and ghrelin, experiencing changes inversely proportional to the normal during short sleep . Leptin decreases and sends signals to the brain weak energy resources while ghrelin increases appetite . The body is therefore in need of food while the reserves are sufficient , which leads to weight gain .
